Salisbury Diocesan Guild

The Guild was founded on 14th September 1882 in Salisbury, in response to the Belfry Reform movement, under the patronage of the Bishop of Salisbury and the presidency of Earl Nelson. At the time members of the North Wilts Guild of Ringers were told their society would cease to exist at the end of 1882 and were encouraged to join the new Guild. Further details can be found in Bell News (30th September 1882, page 203). The Ringing World edition covering the Guild's centenary (17th September 1982, page 769) simply had an illustrative cover with limited historical information.
